How to Read Your Glitter or Holographic Proof

If you've ordered Glitter or Holographic stickers or labels, your proof includes multiple images that show how the specialty material will interact with your artwork. These images help you understand where the glitter or holographic effect will appear and where your design will print normally (without a glitter or holographic effect).

Using a Glitter Sticker proof as an example, you'll typically see three images in your proof package.

Image 1: Your Artwork Preview

The first image shows your design with the cut line.

This is the standard proof view used to confirm:

  • Artwork placement
  • Text and graphics
  • Sticker shape and size
  • Overall design appearance

Review this image just as you would any other proof to ensure your artwork appears correctly.

Image 2: White Backup Layer

The second image shows the white backup layer that will be printed beneath your design.

White ink is used to block the glitter or holographic material from showing through certain areas of the artwork.

Anything shown in white on this proof image will print normally and will not have the glitter or holographic effect.

What Does the White Backup Do?

The white backup layer controls where the specialty material is visible.

  • Areas covered by white ink will print as standard colors.
  • Areas without white ink will allow the glitter or holographic material to show through.
  • White ink is commonly used behind logos, text, and important design elements to keep colors vibrant and easy to read.
  • For example, blue ink printed directly over holographic material creates a blue holographic effect, while blue ink printed over a white backup appears as a standard blue color.

Image 3: Final Specialty Material Preview

The third image is the same as the first image on the proof and is only used for internal purposes. Learn more about the second page of your proof here

What About White Areas in My Design?

This is one of the most common questions customers have. If an area of your artwork is white, it will not automatically print with white ink. Unless a white layer is specifically requested and built into the file, white areas in the artwork will typically show the base glitter or holographic material.

This means:

  • White elements will appear as glitter or holographic material.
  • White backgrounds will show the specialty material.
  • A dedicated white ink layer is required when you want specific areas to print as solid white.

Need Changes to Your Proof?

If you'd like more or less glitter or holographic effect in certain areas, select Request Changes before approving your proof. Learn more about how we can set up glitter and holographic artwork here

Be specific about which elements should:

  • Show the specialty material.
  • Print with standard colors.
  • Receive a white backup layer.
  • Print as solid white.

Our Art Team will review your request and provide an updated proof for approval.

Final Review Checklist

Before approving your proof, confirm:

  • Your artwork appears correctly in Image 1.
  • The white backup layer matches the areas you want to print normally.
  • The specialty material appears where expected in the final preview.
  • Logos and text remain readable.
  • Any white elements in your design are behaving as intended.

Taking a few minutes to review all three proof images helps ensure your Glitter or Holographic stickers print exactly the way you envision.
